U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) released the following statement applauding the President’s decision to issue a Major Disaster Declaration for New York State:
“This week, I urged swift approval of New York’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration. I applaud the President’s decision tonight to grant our request. In Central New York, a growing number of confirmed Coronavirus cases has resulted in shortages in medical supplies and increased financial strain on local businesses. Our region needs relief now. With this important designation, New York will receive vital federal dollars that will strengthen our community’s ability to limit the spread of the Coronavirus, treat patients, and assist the local governments under tremendous financial strain due to ongoing public health efforts. As Ranking Member of the Subcommittee with oversight of the federal response to emergencies and natural disasters, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), I will continue working to ensure a strong federal response to the Coronavirus pandemic.”
Highlighting the immediate need for federal resources to support New York’s response to the Coronavirus, on Wednesday, Reps. Katko and Brindisi lead New York’s Congressional Delegation in urging President Trump to support a major disaster declaration in the state.
