Write a commentRichard E. Ackerman, 73 , of Oswego died unexpectedly April 2, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his loving family there.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Alvin and Sally (Edsall) Ackerman.
Richard was employed by the Oswego City Fire Department. He began his career with the city as a cadet in 1967. He worked his way through the ranks, to Deputy Chief, retiring in 2005 after 38 years of distinguished service.
He was a member of the Elks #271 and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He also loved his two Siamese cats, Zack and Lilly.
Surviving are his loving wife, Patricia of 37 years; three children; two daughters, Alexandra Ackerman of Waterloo and Wendi Ackerman, of Syracuse and son, Mark Ackerman of Brewerton; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Friday, April 5th from 11-1PM with a funeral service to follow, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made, in Richard’s name, to either the Oswego Fire Department Benevolent Association, 35 East Cayuga Street or Oswego County Humane Society, 29 West Seneca Street Oswego NY.
