Roger Matthew Broadwell, 86, originally from Oswego, NY, went home to heaven on August 17, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anita Broadwell in 2017 after 57 years of marriage.
Roger served his country for four years in the US Naval Reserves before joining the United States Air Force where he retired after 20 years of service. During his military career, he was stationed in Germany, France and Panama. From Panama, he was deployed to Vietnam where he served two tours of the Vietnam War.
Domestically, he served at Hancock, Samson, Otis, and Pope Air Force Bases. While at Otis, in Cape Cod, he served as Honor Guard for Air Force One. He proudly spoke of saluting and shaking the hand of President John F. Kennedy 34 times over 17 weekends.
After retiring from the USAF in 1975, Roger and his family moved from Fayetteville, NC to Upstate NY where he resided for over 40 years before moving to the Dallas area to live near his daughter.
For many years, he owned and managed Fulton Donuts, (formerly known as Dan Dee Donuts in Fulton, NY) before retiring.
Roger was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church on Simpson Drive, Oswego for many years before moving to Texas.
Roger is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Opal Broadwell and sister, Virginia Osborn all of Oswego, NY.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Bill) Scoville of Oswego, NY; son Roger Broadwell, Jr. of Oswego, NY and daughter Cindy (Paul) Rountree of Wylie, TX. Grandchildren Dan Holmes, Linda (Kenny) King, Donna Holmes, Tina (David) Lambert, Jeffrey (Jeana) Baldwin, Jonathan Baldwin, and Amber (Josh) Miner along with thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Calling hours will be from 5-7pm, Thursday, August 26 at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home in Oswego. Funeral will begin Friday, August 27, at 10am at Bible Baptist Church followed by an Honor Guard service at Peck’s Cemetery in Scriba.
