One of the most welcome signs of spring around Oswego is the reopening of Rudy's Lakeside Drive-in. For those who would like to have a preview, Rudy's will be serving the next Salvation Army Guest Chef Dinner on Tuesday, March 11, 4:30 to 6:30.
The dinner will offer some of Rudy's popular seafoods, including clams, fish, coleslaw, tossed salad, along with desserts and beverages provided by members of the Advisory Board. The dinner will be at the Salvation Army Citadel, 73 West Second Street, in Oswego. Carryout dinners will be available.
The Guest Chef dinners are organized by the Advisory Board and offered to the community to raise funds for support of the services of the Army throughout Oswego County.
Mexico High School Junior ROTC students will be assisting with the Rudy's dinner. The purpose of Marine Corps Junior ROTC is to introduce students to a structured program with the goal of making them more informed through community involvement and class instruction. Students get classes on leadership, military history and other things that aren't taught in traditional classes. Students learn to lead other students through conduct of drill and uniform inspections. The group is under the leadership of Lt. Col. John Freida.
Rudy's is one of Oswego's most unique and popular summer eating places, known for its efficient service and a great variety of fun foods cooked to order while you watch. It has been operated by the same family since 1946, with members of the fourth generation now on staff. Rudy's Lakeside Restaurant will open for the season on March 19.
The Oswego County Salvation Army Corps provides fresh-cooked meals in both Fulton and Oswego and many other services are provided to individuals and families in need throughout Oswego County.
