Slow First Quarter Contributes to Laker Loss

OS Lacross

The Oswego State men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-8 decision to Brockport on Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Shriver Stadium. On the season, the Lakers are now 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference while the Golden Eagles go to 7-5, 2-1.

A 4-0 first quarter for Brockport proved to be the difference in the game, with the Golden Eagles making it five-straight goals to start the game at 11:28 in the second quarter. Oswego would not go quietly, however, notching four of the game's next five goals to cut the Brockport advantage to just two, 6-4, early in the second half. The host then rattled off three-straight goals to close out the third period, with the final goal in the spurt proving to be the game-winner.

Tyler Nason led the Lakers with three goals, matching Nick Giampaolo and Cody Hoose's team-high point totals. The pair of seniors also had three point outings, with Giampaolo notching two goals with an assist while Hoose tallied three helpers. Also finishing with a multiple-point contest was Jimmy Cordon, finding the back of the net twice. Luke Krizman and Matt Palmer rounded out Saturday's point-getters, as Krizman had an assist while Palmer scored a goal.

Giampaolo, Ben Roberts, Kyle Wistner, Ryan Kennish and Wyatt Russo tied for the team lead with two ground balls apiece. Roberts, Teddy Phillips and Joe Noce each recorded a caused turnover.

Russo played the duration of the game between the pipes for Oswego, stopping 10 Golden Eagle shot attempts.

Both teams tied with 33 shots each while Oswego cared for the ball well on the clear, completing 16-of-18 attempts successfully.

The Lakers will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to Potsdam for a rescheduled game, as the contest was postponed late on Wednesday due to unforeseen snowy conditions.
