Residents at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego gathered to take part in a much anticipated seasonal event when the delivery truck from Eagle Beverage Inc. pulled-up to the residence and unloaded a supply of beer and other specialty beverages for residents, family and friends to sample, while enjoying a beautiful fall afternoon of fun and comradery that has become an annual tradition.
This year was a special celebration as it marked the 10th anniversary of the Eagle Beverage Inc., visit to St. Luke. Joining Eagle Beverage owner Dan Dorsey, Jr. were “The Bud Man” from Anheuser-Busch and “Bud Girls” who helped serve residents and add to the festivities
“We all enjoy a favorite beverage with good company from time to time, and our residents here at St. Luke are no exception,” noted Diane Garcia of St. Luke’s Activities Department, who helped organize the event. “Our sincerest thanks to Eagle Beverage for the generosity they have extended to our folks and their family and friends, especially Dan Dorsey, Jr. and everyone who joined Dan. It’s not only the beverages that they serve, our resident’s truly enjoy having the time to visit and share a few laughs.”
Besides the beer and specialty beverages provided by Eagle Beverage, residents also enjoyed some special “pub fare” made by the St. Luke Dietary Department. And accompanying all the food and drink were a few stories swapped among residents.
And in in keeping with the spirit of the 10th anniversary of this event, it wasn’t long before the story turned to how this “tradition” got started at St. Luke.
“Local lore has it that ten years ago three residents who were close friends would regularly and half-jokingly ask St. Luke’s Clinical Nutrition Manager Bernice Strother when they might expect their beer delivery, as they had been known to enjoy a beverage together from time to time,” explained Garcia. “So at the time Bernice did them one better and reached out to Dan Dorsey, Sr. at Eagle Beverage who immediately made arrangements for a visit. Not only did the three friends (and many other St. Luke residents) get a beer delivery that year, Mr. Dorsey personally accompanied a group of Eagle Beverage employees on many subsequent visits; and now thanks to Dan Dorsey, Jr. this tradition continues.”
For most residents, regardless of how this tradition got started, the annual visit from Eagle Beverage has been a highlight on the St. Luke Activities calendar for the last decade!
