On Saturday, May 7th, many fraternities, and sorority members who attend SUNY Oswego helped clean up after the infamous Bridge Street Run, (aka BSR) an unofficial rite of passage for SUNY Oswego students to signify the end of the school year.

The clean up was the idea of Eric Susino-Acton and his Mother, who own Mimi's Home Cleaning. They came up with the idea as a way to be more involved with the local community. Acton stated that "We wanted to take the burden off the city but also show the community that the students care about our community. This Bridge Street Run, the city put out more trash cans stretching from downtown all the way to West Bridge and Liberty Street.

Mimi's Home Cleaning put on the event and was not the only business to take part in the clean up. Cheap Seats would host the event with gift cards being raffled to those who participated in the clean up. Premier Living Suites as well as The Oswego "D" Bus participated too.

Walker also stated that “We are fortunate to have many caring students on campus every year that contribute to positive, community spirit. Our goal as a business within Oswego is to continue volunteering wherever possible along with the students who use our services, in order to give back to the entire Oswego community.”

Mayor Billy Barlow believed that the weekend and student engagement was “outstanding” and the Bridge Street Run went off without any major issues and felt the students were “well behaved and respectful.” Mayor Barlow also commented that “The community deeply appreciated the help the students provided in cleaning up afterwards in several different areas and demonstrates how the students contribute to our community.”

Susino-Acton said he feels the clean up well and also felt that "We had great volunteers and they did a great job." Walker stated that ”Hopefully, this will become a yearly event!”
