Anthony House is proud to announce that Ed Gosek, longtime head coach of the SUNY Oswego Lakers Men’s Hockey Team, will serve as the keynote speaker at this year’s Journey of Hope fundraising event, to be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego.
Gosek, an Oswego native and SUNY Oswego alumnus, has been the head coach of the Lakers since 2003, leading the team to consistent success and a 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship. Known for his leadership, integrity, and service to his players and community, Gosek’s message of teamwork, perseverance, and compassion aligns closely with the mission of Anthony House, which provides end-of-life comfort care to individuals and families in need.
“We are honored to have Coach Gosek join us as our keynote speaker,” said Kateri Spinella, Executive Director of Anthony House. “His integrity, leadership, and service to the Oswego community truly reflect the spirit of hope and compassion that inspires our mission each day.”
The event will feature dinner, a brief program, live music by Kimo & Anna, raffle baskets, and more. Doors open at 5:30 PM, with the program beginning at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $65 per person or $500 for a table of eight and can be purchased online at www.anthonyhouseoswego.org/events.
“Our November event is more than a fundraiser—it’s an opportunity to stand together as a community,” added Spinella. “By supporting Anthony House, you help us continue to offer compassionate care and comfort to individuals and families when they need it most.”

Ed Gosek stands as the all-time winningest coach in Oswego State Men’s Ice Hockey history, with a career record of 408-142-36 (.718 winning percentage) entering the 2025–26 season.
A former Laker player and lifelong Oswego resident, Coach Gosek famously guided his team to its first-ever NCAA National Championship in 2007, earning the prestigious AHCA Ed Jeremiah National Coach of the Year Award. He has consistently kept the Lakers among the nation’s elite—leading the program to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, four SUNYAC championships, and mentoring dozens of standout players, including 29 All-American selections.
Beyond the rink, Gosek has served USA Hockey for over 30 years, helping develop the next generation of elite players and embodying the true spirit of mentorship and community engagement.
Community & Compassionate Service
Coach Gosek’s dedication to the community is deeply personal. His late wife, Mary Gosek, who passed away from ovarian cancer, utilized hospice care—as did his late brother and other family members. This experience fuels his commitment to supporting hospice and the Anthony House mission of dignity and compassion in end-of-life care.
His philanthropic efforts include:
- Hospice Support: Gosek and the Oswego State Lakers have volunteered for over a decade at the annual Hotcakes for Hospice event, raising critical funds for local hospice programs.
- Peaceful Remedies: Serving as an Emeritus Board Member for this nonprofit founded by his late wife, Mary, which provides free holistic and emotional support for individuals and families facing life-altering illnesses.
- Ovarian Cancer Awareness: In partnership with the Hope for Heather Foundation, Gosek champions ovarian cancer awareness through events such as Totally Teal Tuesdays, the Totally Teal Walk and Remembrance, and Teal Night at Oswego State Hockey.
- Pediatric Cancer: Gosek also supports Griffin’s Guardians, a Central New York organization dedicated to helping children and families battling pediatric cancer.
Coach Gosek’s legacy is defined by passion, service, and compassion—qualities that mirror the mission of Anthony House and inspire the entire Oswego community.
