Did you know that February 2020 marks the 200th year anniversary of Susan B. Anthony's birth?
2020 also marks the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote? Quite a year!
But you probably don't know the story behind the passage of the 19th amendment and the role the women of Sterling and upstate NY played in making that happen. We at the Arts Center are about to bring that to life,
On February 29, we will be presenting a dramatic reading of letters between Susan B and Elizabeth Cady Stanton and others -- brought to us by one of our members, Dorothy Cooper, who previously was docent of the Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester. She has performed this "play" in various locations and we are delighted to be able to offer it here. If you are interested in participating in the performance, please join us next Thursday, February 6 at 11:00 am at the Arts Center.
We are also delighted that Robert Kolsters will be starting up some more history discussions this month - and that he will be devoting his first session to a discussion of the Suffragette movement in Sterling (see below). His first session will be next Wednesday, Feb 5 from 2-4 pm. Come hear about the visit Susan B. Anthony made to Sterling and the role of some of the local women in the movement. It promises to be a lively discussion!
