The Comic Shop Continues into Fourth Decade under New Ownership

The Comic Shop will continue serving the next generation of comic and game fans under new ownership.

The Shop, located at 112 E. Bridge St. in Oswego for more than 30 years, was purchased earlier this year by long-time customers Joseph Samuels and Jonathan Weldin.

Samuels and Weldin both grew up in Oswego County and have fond childhood memories of shopping and gaming at The Shop. They are excited to continue providing the same experiences to the next generation. “We have customers who came in when they were kids coming in with their own kids now,” said Samuels. “It’s cool to be part of this legacy in the city.”

Since purchasing The Shop, the new owners have tried to make improvements while maintaining the character of the space. Housed in the city’s former firehouse building, the store needed to be functional for shoppers while also being able to host events such as weekly game nights. “We moved furniture and did a lot of rearranging,” said long-time store manager Martin Kinney. “We’ve had good feedback from customers, and all the changes seem to have been received positively.”

Weldin added, “We want to keep what’s made The Comic Shop great for 30 years and just add to it.”

The Comic Shop will be hosting an event on August 16 to formally celebrate this new chapter in The Shop’s history. There will be sales, door prizes, and special guests throughout the day. Visit their website at thecomic.shop or their Facebook page for more details.
