Mallory Graham and Scott Tyler perform together as The Rough & Tumble. They'll be headlining the bill at the Oswego Music Hall on Saturday, December 2nd. The Music Hall's own Mark Wahl will open the show.

iHeart Oswego was able to connect with Graham and Tyler during a busy Thanksgiving week. The couple have purchased a home in New Hampshire this year, and have company visiting for the holiday. They said that they're getting near the tail end of their 2023 touring schedule. "We do between 130 and 140 shows per year, and have been on the road for about 250 days," Graham said. "Other than a show on New Year's Eve, the Oswego show will be our last one of the year."

The couple met through music, Tyler said. "We met at a music clinic on Martha's Vineyard, then ended up together at an artist's colony near Asheville, NC."

They then moved to Nashville, and after living there for a while, decided to try life on the road.

Rather than using a van or a tour bus, the couple have traditionally driven to their shows pulling a travel trailer. "We've been touring with the camper for over eight years now," Tyler said. "Unfortunately, our old camper gave up the ghost after about 400,000 miles on the road, and we need to get a new one ready to head to Florida in mid-January." (They'll be staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Oswego, one of the Music Hall's sponsors.)

The Rough & Tumble will be performing songs from their 2023 album Only This Far, their eighth recording. The album features outstanding musicianship, and their vocal harmonies are exquisite, as if their voices were destined to sing together.

The couple write all their own songs, sharing songwriting duties fairly equally, they said. When asked if they ever write songs to feature each other, Graham said, "In the process of bringing a song to fruition, it might end up favoring one or the other's style, but I think we each just write what we're feeling. Sometimes we write individually and sometimes together. We bear each other's burdens."

Both Graham and Tyler said they are looking forward to their visit to Oswego. "We've played in Rochester and in Syracuse, but haven't made it to Oswego yet," Tyler said. "We're looking forward to visiting the city. We've heard good things."

The Rough & Tumble will perform at the Oswego Music Hall on Saturday evening, December 2nd. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and Mark Wahl's set will begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available online at OswegoMusicHall.org or they can be purchased at the river's end bookstore at 19 West Bridge Street in downtown Oswego.
