Thelma “T” Borden, 93, a lifelong Oswego resident, passed away July 24th, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Myrtle (Myers) Hoefer. She was educated in the Oswego public schools.

“T” was employed as a Court Attendant at Oswego County Family Court, from which she retired on her 90th birthday after nearly 30 years of service. She truly looked forward to work everyday. “T” was formerly employed at the Taggart, General Electric, and with the Oswego City School District.

She was very proud of her work during World War II welding Army tanks in Oswego while her husband Leslie, fought with the 17th Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge. “T” was a communicant of the First United Methodist Church regularly serving as an usher, greeter, and a lifelong committee member for the Oswego County Republican Party. “T” was also a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer who visited patients at Marcy Psychiatric Center, and co-hosted sing-a-longs at area nursing homes with Laura McCarey for many years.

She enjoyed bowling and knitting, but most of all spending time with family and friends. She leaves behind her children, Jeanne (Orville) Byrne, James (Marilyn) Borden and Janet Borden-Corbitt all of Oswego, NY; grandchildren Michael (Tammy) Byrne, Pam (Tim) Felasco, Jeffrey (Bruce Deming) Byrne, Christopher (Amy) Byrne, Brian (Melissa Clary) Borden and Michelle Borden; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, among them a very special caring niece, Bobbie Jean (Borden) Carson. She was predeceased by her husband Leslie in 1978; brothers Edgar Hoefer and Donald Hoefer; and sister Shirley Cullivan.

A private memorial service will be held at Nelson Funeral Home at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in “T” Borden’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
