Thomas “Tom” Scardella, 43, of Oswego, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, with his mother and father by his side.
Born on February 27, 1982, in Oswego, Tom was known and loved by everyone he met. He attended Oswego City Schools and BOCES in Mexico.
Tom is survived by his mother, Jean Scardella of Camillus; his father, John (Michele) Scardella of Fort Myers, FL; his brother, Brian (Bethany) Scardella of Potomac, MD; and his beloved nephew and niece, Theodore and Cameron Scardella, whom he cherished dearly.
He is also survived by his uncles and aunts: John (Denise) Denny, Joseph (Anne) Denny, Jessica (Howard) Ormsby, Anthony (Susan) Scardella, and Rev. Joseph Scardella.
Cousins include: Chris (Ariel) Denny, Katie (Mike) Rey, Susan (Ryan) McMahon, Lisa (Jon) Nemargut, Sean (Sarah) Ormsby, Laurene Scardella (Julien Gore), David (Jamie) Scardella, and Amy Scardella (James Marino).
Tom was predeceased by his grandparents, John (Catherine) Denny and Santo (Edna) Scardella.
If you knew Tom, you knew of his love for racing, wrestling, and his pride as a lifelong member of the Buffalo Bills Mafia. He was recognized for his welcoming personality, quick wit, and unforgettable ability to say things that could make anyone laugh. That was Tom—he could shower you with love and make you feel as though you had known him your entire life the next.
As a child, Tom enjoyed playing sports with his brother and friends and was known as the best team manager around. Later in life, at his group home, Tom loved spending time with staff and fellow consumers, participating in programs, and joining any adventure that was planned. He deeply loved his family, especially Theodore and Cameron, and never missed an opportunity to talk about them.
Tom will be remembered with love and laughter by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Calling hours Thursday, September 4, from 4-7PM at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home. Private burial services will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
