Tyler Rypkema of Owego, New York enjoys when he has the opportunity to race at Oswego Speedway. Last season Rypkema came to Oswego and posted a best-ever Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series fueled by Sunoco finish, with a 4th place in the 2015 version of the Richie Evans Memorial in May. This season Rypkema seeks to improve his finishing position.
“I felt comfortable at Oswego from the first time I went there,” stated Rypkema, who is one of the young stars of the Series. “We hit on a pretty good setup last year and the car was good all day long. We were able to run near the front the entire day and had a strong run that we were very proud of in the feature. I know we can build on that performance.”
Rypkema has had a busy season to date, beginning racing with a trek to Florida and then posting a 15th place finish in the season opening event at Mahoning Valley Speedway in late April.
“The opportunity to race in Florida gave us a head start and a jump on the season,” Rypkema explained. “We learned a great deal. Mahoning was new for us and we were happy with our effort and we know that we can improve with more laps there, but Oswego, that’s a big deal for us. It’s one of my favorite tracks and we are looking forward to Saturday and the race there. It’s going to be exciting, there is no doubt about that.”
Rypkema will be participating as a Series regular in 2016.
“We had a few setbacks in 2015 which kept us from competing the entire season, but our plan is to be at every race this year. The Race of Champions is a fun series to run with great competition and we only got a taste of things at Mahoning, we can’t wait to get going at Oswego.”
Pit gates open at Oswego Speedway on Saturday at 11:30am with the grandstand gates opening at 1:30pm. Racing begins at 5:00pm. For more information and tickets at Oswego Speedway (www.oswegospeedway.com) Phone: (315) 342-0646.
