The United Way's Annual Campaign, which serves as the organizations primary fundraiser for the many human services programs that United Way and its IMG 7564member agencies provide for those who live in Oswego County, officially got under way with a special Kick-Off Breakfast held Sept. 11 at the American Foundry, in Oswego. Although a campaign goal for 2013-14 is set for $800,000, it the hope of the Campaign Cabinet and United Way supporters to surpass that goal.

IMG 7578 Speakers for the event included Danielle Hayden, of the American Red Cross, and Meg Henderson, of OCO's Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County, who both shared success stories made possible by the assistance of the United Way. The featured speaker was Move Along, Inc. founder, Greg Callen, who inspired all those attending with his story of strength and perserverence.
When fall from a 13-foot balcony eight years ago left Greg Callen with paralysis of the lower half of his body, it launched him on a soul-searching journey through depression and the new emotional and physical challenges he would now face. Garnering strength through his loving family, Callen set himself on a course to live independently and is now the director of admissions and marketing for Morningstar Residential Health Center.
But he didn't stop there. With Move Along established in 2009, his mission today is to provide accessible outlets for individuals with disabilities to achieve personal gratification, growth, and integrity through participation and competition. Move Along currently provides: sled hockey, adult and youth wheelchair basketball, swimming, kayaking / rowing and adapted cycling.
