On May 22, more than 250 KeyBanks throughout Central New York closed its doors at noon, changed from business suits into jeans and T-shirts to work on community projects for Key's 23rd annual "Neighbors Make the Difference Day."
In Oswego, staff from Key Bank volunteered their time to plant flowers, prune rose bushes and put mulch down at Valehaven while Burke's Home Center in Oswego donated a barrel for the flowers to planted in.
"Residents enjoyed 'supervising' the work," said Stephanie Griffin, administrator of Valehaven. "The facility lawn looks wonderful and brought many smiles to our residents."
Nationally, more than 7,500 KeyBank employees (that's more than half Key's workforce) from Maine to Alaska make a difference in their respective communities on Neighbors Make the Difference Day. In the past 22 years, Key employees have given more than half a million volunteer hours through Neighbors Day.
"It is true that one small token of kindness can make a huge difference in someone's life," Griffin added.
