Viola M. Kunzwiler, 94, a former resident of Oswego, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, with both daughters by her side, at Bethany Health Care in Framingham MA.
Born in Scriba, She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Phenia (Seeley) Hammond and was a graduate of the Oswego High School.
She was employed by the City of Oswego in the Vital Statistics Department for ten years and retired as the Assistant Manager of the Marine Midland Bank after twenty years of employment.
Viola was a life time member of the Scriba Historical Society. She spent many years researching the genealogy of the family and was more than happy to share the wealth of her knowledge. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, knitting, and reading.
Surviving are her two daughters, Teresa Kunzwiler of Massachusetts, Connie (Jack) Simmons of Oswego, a grandson, Brian (Emily) Castle of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert Kunzwiler, four sisters, Inez Ricci, Martha Attwood, Marguerite Wyman and Dawn Hammond and three brothers, Francis "Sid" Hammond, Kenneth and Charles Hammond.
Calling hours will be Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, at Dowdle Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at Christ the Good Shepherd on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11:00 am.
Burial following at St. Peter's Cemetery.
