In the 1950s, there were more than 4,000 drive-in theaters operating across the U.S. Today, less than 400 remain open.
Oswego County is fortunate to be home to one of the 400. However, a July 2014 storm destroyed the screen at Midway, which could have closed it down. When insurance money wasn't quite enough to cover the cost of a new screen, the community came together to fill the gap. The screen was replaced and Midway Drive-in lives on.
USA Today is currently running a poll to determine the best drive-in theaters in the U.S. The Midway Drive-in is one of the 20 drive-ins listed in the poll which readers can vote for. With just 5 days left, Midway Drive-in currently holds 4th place.
Readers may vote daily. The poll closes on May 23rd at noon. To register your vote, visit http://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-drive-in-movie-theater/.
