Walter Lehmann, 75, of Oswego, passed away peacefully March 28 after a long illness.
Born June 11, 1950, in Oswego, he was the son of Ernest and Helen (Bailey) Lehmann. He was educated in the Oswego public school system and attended SUNY Canton.
Mr. Lehmann proudly served his country in the United States Army, both on active duty and in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Sergeant First Class from the Army Reserve in Oswego.
He was employed by the City of Oswego, Black Clawson, and Alcan Aluminum prior to his retirement. Following retirement, he worked for five years in the nursery at Ontario Orchards.
A devoted man of faith, he was a longtime member of the Oswego Church of Christ, where he worshiped and served in various capacities. He was also a longtime member of the Oswego 35 Hunting Club, where he enjoyed outdoor activities and fellowship with friends especially Joe LiVoti who was his “Brother from another mother". He also enjoyed traveling and visiting various amazing spots throughout the world.
Walter had a passion for the arts, particularly photography, for which he received awards in various competitions. In recent years, he was known for his handcrafted wood-turned Christmas ornaments, which he displayed and sold at Ontario Orchards.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Gail (Mitchell) Lehmann; his children, Susan (Jeff) Pratt, Robert (Kristen) Lehmann, Stephen (Jennifer) Lehmann, and Theodore “Teddy” Lehmann; and his grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Lehmann, Bailey Pratt and Jackson, Bennett, and Emeric Lehmann.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Ernie and Bobby Lehmann.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oswego Church of Christ in his memory.
Memorial services will be 11AM Saturday, April 18,2026 at the Church of Christ, 21 Churchill Road Oswego, NY 13126.
