William J. Nickolas, 70, a resident of Woolson Road in Scriba, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, at his home, with his wife by his side.

He was born in Scriba, the son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth (Johnston) Nickolas. He was a life resident of the area.

He was a proud union member of Boilermaker’s Local #175-5. Prior to his retirement, he worked on many construction projects, both locally, and around the country.

He was a member of the Oswego Valley Railroad Association. He also served as a board member, and secretary, for the Oswego Railroad Museum.

Mr. Nickolas was a member of the South Scriba United Methodist Church, where he served as a Lay Minister and Lay Reader.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Barnes) Nickolas of Scriba; four children, Billie (Colleen) Nickolas of Scriba, Paul Nickolas of Scriba, Tracy (Mike) Fragale of Tucumcari, New Mexico, and Daniel (Jennifer) Nickolas of Scriba; a brother, Steve Nickolas of Syracuse; 15 grandchildren, Jake, Jessie, Gavin, Katie, Chris, Carissa, Josh, Michaela, Cory, Nick, Jaidon, Josiah, Brendan, Lauren, and Michael-Ann; three great-grandchildren; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, John Nickolas.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00, with a service to follow at 7:00, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
