The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will be presenting a variety of nature and science-based programming over midwinter break, the week of February 17th through February 21st.
The first program, 4-H Hot Cocoa and Paint will take place on Wednesday, February 19th at 10:00 a.m. Join the educator for a fun Hot Cocoa & Paint, where youth will enjoy sipping on delicious hot cocoa while creating their very own nature-themed masterpiece of an evergreen tree! This class is perfect for kids to unleash their creativity as they paint a beautiful landscape and add their own spin to it. The educator will guide them step-by-step, making sure everyone feels confident and proud of their artwork. Registration is required for this program, as space is limited, so sign up today. The cost to attend this program is $10.
On Thursday, February 20th, starting at 1:00 p.m., the environmental educator will be leading a Winter Scavenger Hunt. Explore the snowy trails and discover everything nature has to offer as participants search for unique seasonal features. Participants will search for animal tracks and winter birds, to the intricate patterns of ice and snow-covered trees. This fun, family-friendly activity is perfect for all ages, offering a chance to connect with the outdoors, learn about the local ecosystem, and experience the peace and wonder of a winter landscape. Bundle up and get ready to explore the natural wonders of Oswego County’s winter wilderness!
Join the environmental educator in the education building on Friday, February 21st, beginning at 10:00 a.m. for a Winter Break Snowshoe Hike. This guided hike will take participants through the Center’s scenic winter trails, where they’ll learn about local wildlife, winter ecology, and the environment. This is a perfect experience for kids to explore the beauty of nature in winter, while staying active and engaged. Snowshoes are provided, so all you need is a sense of adventure and warm clothes. This fun, beginner friendly adventure is perfect for all ages. Educators ask everyone who is attending to please dress appropriately for whatever the weather may be. Wearing winter boots or winter shoes that are flat are recommended so they can easily be strapped in.
The fee for Thursday and Friday’s programs is only $4 per person, or $12 for a family. Children under the age of three are free! The recommended age for these programs is 5+.

Even if you aren’t able to attend the program, trails at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center are open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. There is no parking fee, and there is a map of the trails when you arrive.
