Write a commentA group of local Oswego students ranging in ages recently performed in a showcase entitled "Rising Star Musicians" at Bishop's Commons Enriched Living Residence. Sharing their musical talents, students performed solo acts playing a variety of instruments for residents to enjoy.
"It was a wonderful program for our residents and we are fortunate to have these gifted children share their Sunday afternoon with us," noted senior living coordinator, Julie Chetney. While many performed on the piano, the show also featured musical pieces played by students on their violins, saxophones, flutes and clarinets.
The program was just one of the many inter-generational opportunities that take place at Bishop's Commons between seniors and children. Resident Wallace Auser opened the program sharing his story of having to choose between playing piano or playing football 80 years ago as a 10-year-old boy.
"Not a day goes by that I don't regret giving up the piano," he noted. "So I applaud these children for their hard work and commitment to both music and sports."
Closing the event was Claire Richardson who played "God Bless America" on her viola where the entire audience stood and sang along.
