One of the Oswego City School District’s most anticipated holiday traditions, the Polar Express Pajama Party, celebrated its 10th anniversary last week having raised a total of more than $10,000 for the Kingsford Park Home and School Scholarship Program.
The Pajama Party, held at Oswego High School on Dec. 1, welcomed hundreds of students, parents, families and community members to kick off the Christmas season with a screening of the film based on Chris Van Allsburg’s classic book.
Lisa Roman, Co-President of the KPS Home and School, said the idea for the Pajama Party came to her while looking to plan some holiday fun with her younger children – who, ten years later, now help out the event themselves.
“We’re thrilled,” Roman said. “It’s become such a popular event and it’s always amazing to see everyone dressed up and have a great time.”
Pajama-clad children and parents streamed into OHS to eat pizza, make Christmas ornaments, have their faces painted or hear a reading of The Polar Express before the movie started. A book raffle for a copy of The Polar Express was supported by The Rivers End Bookstore.
Over ten years, Polar Express Pajama Party has raised more than $10,000, which the KPS Home and School Association uses to award two $500 scholarships annually to graduating seniors.
