100 “Backpacks from Bikers” Donated to Friends of Recovery of Oswego County

Recently, No Rules Riders’ Too Far Gone Chapter presented 100 bags filled with shelf-stable snacks and hygiene items to Friends of Recovery of Oswego County.

The bags, which are destined for unhoused members of the local community, were filled with personal items like toothbrushes, tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, nail clippers, feminine hygiene products, and toilet paper. Shelf-stable snacks the group collected for the bags included granola bars, pudding cups, apple sauce packs and gum. Donors were also encouraged to write a note of encouragement to recipients to remind them that they are not alone in their struggles.

The Oswego chapter of the riding club worked with JoJo’s Diner and The Hole Sports Tavern, both located in Oswego, to collect items for the bags.

“We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation of harm reduction bags,” said Executive Director Virginia Bough. “These supplies are more than just items—they are lifelines that help us meet people where they are, reduce risk, and build trust within our community. Thanks to this support, the Recovery Community Outreach Center can continue to promote health, dignity, and hope for those we serve every day.”

Friends of Recovery of Oswego County provides a number of services to those struggling with addiction and substance use disorders, as well as offering a wide variety of supports to the unhoused community. Services include distribution of overdose prevention bags, NARCAN trainings, peer drop-in hours through partnerships with OCO and Farnham, and SMART Recovery Meetings every Wednesday at 4:30pm.

People in all stages of recovery are welcome to drop in for support, whether to the SMART Recovery Meetings or more generally during their open hours. The Outreach Center located at 808 W. Broadway, Fulton, is open 10am to 5pm Monday and Tuesday, 10am to 6pm Wednesday through Friday, and 9am to noon on Saturday and Sunday.
