The Fulton Lions Club inducted Mark Pollock as their newest member and heard a presentation by Aurora of Central New York, Inc. (Aurora of CNY), on outreach to the blind and hearing impaired at their April meeting.
Pollock was inducted by Lion Zachary Merry and sponsored by Past President, Dr. Brett Tallents. “We are delighted to have Mark join our club,” said Michelle Stanard, president. “He’s very well-known and respected in the Fulton community and was already active prior to his induction as a participant in our recent Lions Loot Sweepstakes.”
David DeFrancis, director of public relations for Aurora of CNY, gave an overview of the organization’s mission, and close working relationship with Lions clubs. Aurora serves individuals who are blind, hard of hearing or deaf and deafblind.
In addition to helping those they serve with employment, orientation and mobility, children’s instructional services, and a host of other support systems, Aurora provides devices that make life easier and provide greater independence. Among these are a flashing strobe doorbell and pocket talkers for the deaf and hard of hearing, and talking clocks, captioning devices, and talking books for the blind.
Headquartered in Syracuse, Aurora serves Onondaga, northern Cortland, Oswego and Cayuga counties. Services are free to those who qualify. For more information, they can be contacted at (315) 422-7263 or www.auroraofcny.org.
