Oswego Opera Theater is proud to present the children's opera "Brundibar" on Saturday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Resurrection (120 West Fifth Street) at Oswego, New York. "Brundibar is especially important to Oswego because of the city's history as the only Safe Haven in the United States for Holocaust refugees. The work is enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

The opera will be performed by local student, ranging in age from seven to seventeen. The orchestra will be comprised of members of the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra, community members, and college students. 'The conductor will be Dr. Juan F. LaManna, faculty member of SUNY Oswego and artistic director of the Oswego Opera Theater. Lyndsie Jones, well known in the CNY area in children's theater, will serve as stage manager. The vocal coach will be Dr. Mihoko Tsutsumi, director of choral music at SUNY Oswego and the Oswego Youth Conservatory.

''"Brundibar" is an opera about hope, written in 1938 by the Czech composer, Hans Krasa. It was first performed in Prague, but in July 1943 the score was smuggled into the Terezin concentration camp, where it was re-orchestrated for the available instruments in the camp. The opera became popular in the concentration camp because everyone saw the children having fun; everyone could also see the allegorical meaning of the work; and everyone enjoyed the memorable music.

Tickets are available at Wayne Drug, the river's end bookstore and at the door. Prices are $15 for adults and $5 for students.
