The Zonta Club of Oswego is calling on all Helens, Stanleys, and neighbors to "romp" for a reason.

On Friday, April 17th, the club will host "Caftans for a Cause: Dancing to End Domestic Violence," a spirited Mrs. Roper-themed fundraiser at The Elks Club of Oswego, 132 W.5th St., Oswego from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

The event invites the community to channel their inner Helen Roper—the iconic, floor-length-caftan-wearing character from Three's Company—for an evening of 70s hits and advocacy. Beyond the vintage glam and curly wigs, the event serves a vital purpose: raising funds for Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Services to Aid Families (SAF) program.

As the licensed domestic violence and rape crisis provider for Oswego County, SAF provides a lifeline for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and other crimes. All proceeds from the "Romp" will directly assist survivors in their journey toward safety and stability.

"Zonta's mission is to build a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy," says Kristin LaBarge, President of the Zonta Club of Oswego. "What better way to do that than by celebrating a character known for her bold style, humor, and independent spirit?  By 'Dancing to End Domestic Violence,' we are turning a fun community tradition into a powerful engine for change.  Every ticket sold helps OCO SAF provide the emergency shelter, crisis counseling, and safety planning that our neighbors desperately need."

The Impact of the Event: Funds raised will support SAF's comprehensive services, which include:

  • 24/7 Crisis Hotline: A safe point of contact for victims and their support systems.
  • Emergency Shelter: Temporary housing for individuals and families fleeing violence.
  • Advocacy & Support: One-on-one emergency room advocacy and legal support.
  • Supportive Counseling: Individual sessions led by Certified Rape Crisis Counselors.

"Domestic violence affects the entire community," says Bridget Dolbear, OCO Coordinator of Fund Development.  "Events like this not only provide the financial resources needed to help survivors find stable environments but also send a loud message that Oswego County stands against violence."

Event Details: Attendees are encouraged to wear their most colorful caftans and retro attire. The evening will feature - Dancing to the retro 70's sounds of Mystic Music DJ, Retro Refreshments at a cash bar, and our Golden Caftan Costume Contests!  Tickets for this fundraising event are $65 and are available at: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/mrs-ropers-romp-caftans-for-a-cause-dancing-to-end-domestic-violence
