CiTi BOCES Expanding and Enhancing Program Offerings

CiTi BOCES Expanding and Enhancing Program Offerings

Over the past three years, the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation (CiTi) has seen incredible expansion to accommodate the needs of Oswego County students, and more growth is on the way.

Oswego County Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) will be starting their second year of existence in the fall of 2017, and thus expanding next year to accommodate the addition of the next class of students. After gaining acceptance into the P-TECH program, the ninth-grade students work towards earning a Regents High School Diploma and an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Onondaga Community College, at no cost to the student’s family.

Exceptional education at CiTi will be expanding its autism programming to the middle and high school levels, with middle school students housed at Central Square School District and high school students housed at Oswego City School District. Currently, autism for elementary students is offered at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District (APWCSD) and that will be expanded to an additional class at Hannibal Central School District (HCSD).

Alternative education programs at CiTi like the Credit Accrual & Recovery for Everyone (CARE) are also growing. Starting with 11 students, CARE started close to a year-and-a-half ago in response to a call from superintendents, teachers and parents in districts around the county to launch a program that allows students who have fallen behind in a traditional school setting to accrue credits toward graduation and embrace learning in nontraditional ways. The program partners with SUNY Oswego and is housed at Sheldon Hall; an anticipated 40 or more students will be enrolled this fall.

The development of a new transitions program is also in place to assist students with the transition of programming and to aid in the ultimate goal: to provide students with the support and success they need to be integrated back into their home school district.

CiTi staff are also developing a unified application system to best identify appropriate placement of students into CiTi programming.
