City of Oswego Hosting Blood Drive on March 26th

City of Oswego Hosting Blood Drive on March 26th

The American Red Cross invites the community to join its lifesaving mission by giving blood this March in celebration of Red Cross Month.

The City of Oswego is hosting a blood drive on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 11am-4pm at the Oswego Fire Department. The Oswego Fire Department is located at 35 East Cayuga Street in Oswego.

Every day, thousands of patients depend on blood donations to help save their lives. City of Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow stated, “We look forward to our continued partnership with the American Red Cross in hosting this blood drive. We appreciate the help the Red Cross offers our residents during their times of need, and we are proud to assist them with the blood drive.”

Oswego Fire Chief Randy Griffin added, “Many of the patients we see on emergency calls benefit from blood donations during their definitive care at area hospitals. Traumatic injuries, and even the most routine of surgeries often require rapid blood replacement. Without available blood from donors, saving lives would be much more difficult.”

Heroes of all blood types are needed to provide hope and help for patients across the country. Make an appointment to donate by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Donors can simply search for the Oswego Fire Department blood drive on the Red Cross website and choose their appointment time.

How to donate blood:

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at redcrossblood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.

For more information, please call the Oswego Fire Department at (315) 343-2161.
