Sarita Charap of the Oswego State field hockey team has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending August 31, 2014.
Against nationally-ranked William Smith on Friday evening, Charap started the second half in goal as the Lakers trailed 6-0 after the opening period. In her collegiate debut, the freshman frustrated the No. 9 Herons' offense, allowing just one goal in 35 minutes of play while stopping 13 shots.
The Lakers will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, when they travel to Ithaca College to take on the Bombers.
