News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

First-half streak helps Oswego State women's basketball defeat Brockport, 53-37

The Oswego State women's basketball team scored 15 unanswered points in the first half to establish a double-digit lead that it never relinquished en route to a 53-37 win over Brockport (3-5, 0-1) Tuesday night.

Three different Lakers reached double figures, while they improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC standings.

Both squads got off to a slow start as Brockport led 4-3 six minutes into the contest until Meagan Stover (Sr., Lake George, N.Y.) triggered the decisive 15-0 run with a pair of free throws. During the stretch, head coach Tracy Bruno received three-pointers from Kari Kipper (Sr., Loudonville, N.Y.), Tayler Sorell (Fr., Hannibal, N.Y.), and Lauren Nunziato(Jr., West Sand Lake, N.Y.) to put Oswego State ahead 18-4 with 8:31 to play in the frame. The Lakers ended the half leading 28-17 after turning eight Golden Eagle turnovers into nine points.

Oswego State maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the second half. Brockport pulled to within 10 points with 1:56 remaining in the second half following a pair of Alexandra Marshall free throws, but the Lakers sank six out of nine free throws down the stretch to extend their lead to 16 points.

Kipper paced Oswego State with 17 points, while Stover and Nunziato compiled 11 and 10 points, respectively. Stover added three steals and Nunziato pulled down five boards. Evelyn Josbena (Sr., Solvay, N.Y.) also contributed 14 rebounds and four blocks. The Laker defense played a key role in the win, as it recorded 11 steals. Cecilia Sigrist was the lone Brockport player to reach double-figures with 10 points.

Neither team shot well from the field, as Oswego State shot 30.0 percent (18-for-60) compared to the Golden Eagles, who shot 24.1 percent (13-for-54).

The Lakers put their unbeaten record on the line at 1 p.m., Saturday afternoon, Dec. 8, against the University of Rochester in Oswego.
