News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Lakers Conclude Season With Loss to Oberlin

OS Baseball

The Oswego State baseball team concluded its season on Thursday morning after it fell 7-2 to Oberlin College in its second game of the NCAA Championship New York Regional at Falcon Park. Oswego finishes the year with a record of 27-13, tying the program record for most wins in a single season.

The Lakers looked good early, nabbing a run in the top of the first inning. Dan Saccocio led off the game with a hit by pitch, a category in which he leads the country. He would then advance to second off an Eric Hamilton single to center. Brian Hamilton then shot one through the left side, advancing his brother and scoring Saccocio. Myles Kutscher moved to first on single, loading the bases, but the Yeoman's Sean Kiley would get out of the jam, leaving Oswego with three left on.

Oberlin would answer with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first and then go on to shut down the Lakers in the following innings. Oswego found its self with runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and seventh frames, but were unable to get its players home.

Going into the ninth, the Lakers trailed 7-1. Wes Randall started the chance for the comeback, gaining first with a base on balls, his third consecutive in the contest. Matt Capobianco singled up the middle, giving Oswego runners on first and second with one out. John Rauseo knocked in Randall with a single to the outfield, but that was the end of the Laker production.

Oswego's offense was spurred by B. Hamilton, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. He was helped by Rauseo, who finished the game going 2-for-5 and recorded the Lakers' other RBI.

Pitching duties were predominantly Robert Donnelly, who hurled seven innings, notching two punch outs. He was relieved in the eighth by Miles Kelly who finished out the game.
