Late Offensive Surge Sends Oswego Past Neumann

OS Hockey

The Oswego State women's ice hockey team used a third-period offensive surge to move past host Neumann University 4-1 on Friday night at IceWorks Skating Complex. With the victory, the Lakers have won four-straight games and improve to 6-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference action. The Knights' loss drops their records to 1-8-1, 1-6.

Entering the final period knotted at 1-1, Oswego exploded for three goals in a less than nine-minute span to overtake Neumann. The run was started with Kendall Appelbaum's second power-play goal of the night at 6:40. Lizzy Marks got the nod for the assist on the score.

Just over four minutes later, Oswego was at it again, this time getting a goal from freshman Andrea Noss off helpers from Olivia Ellis and Sarah Grupp. Five minutes after that, at 15:04, Alexa Aramburu completed the blitz of scoring, sending the puck to the back of the net off an Alli Ullrich pass to make it a 4-1 Laker advantage.

Oswego wasted no time attacking the net against the Knights, grabbing an early lead with a goal just 1:29 into the contest. After Neumann's Grace Klienbach was nabbed for a two-minute hooking minor, Appelbaum capitalized with her first tally of the year. Freshman Andrea Noss received a pass from Alyssa Brockmann and then fed Appelbaum for the score.

Neumann evened the scored a little over 10 minutes later as Bek Lucas snuck in a score off assists from Shanelle Doucette and Sarah Thon.

Senior captain Bridget Smith was solid in net all night long, turning away 24 Knight attempts while only allowing one score.

The Lakers were nearly perfect on special teams, converting two of their three extra-man opportunities for points while holding Neumann off the board on both of its power-play chances.

Oswego and Neumann will faceoff again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m.
