Oswego State indoor track and field teams place eighth at SUNYAC championships

OS Track and FieldThe Oswego State women's and men's indoor track and field teams each finished in eighth place at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships with 21 and 13 points, respectively, Saturday, Feb. 23, at Brockport.

Cortland won the women's title with 172 points, while Oneonta claimed the men's title with 153 points.
Brittany DalCais (So., Hewitt, N.J.) came up just short of defending her conference pole vault title as she cleared a height of 10 feet, 10 inches (3.30m) in her first attempt, but was unable to clear the next benchmark to finish in second place. She then teamed up with Kristen Harrigan (So., Buffalo, N.Y.), Marissa Pariseau (So., Somerset, Mass.) and Katie Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) to capture second place in the 4x400 relay with a new school record time of 4:05.24, which was 0.71 seconds faster than the mark the quartet posted earlier this year.
Joshuwa Maiolo (So., Rome, N.Y.) also logged a school record in the long jump with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 22 feet, 2 1/2 inches in his fourth attempt to take fourth place. He broke the previous record set by Mike Chamberlin in 2010 by a quarter of an inch.
Matt Wagenhauser (So., Greenlawn, N.Y.) picked a great day to turn in his top time of the season in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 50.67 seconds for sixth place. Noah Carroll (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) placed eighth in the mile with a season-best result of 4:23.66, just missing the ECAC benchmark by 1.66 seconds Chris Bridgewater (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered a leap of 43 feet, 10 inches (13.36m) in his final attempt in the triple jump to take eighth place, which was 8 1/2 inches better than Maiolo, who took tenth.
On the women's side, Bott crossed the finish line sixth in the 400-meter dash with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:00.30.
The men's distance medley relay made up of Thorin Kane (Sr., Dewittville, N.Y.), Kyle Buscaglia (Jr., Akron, N.Y.), Sean Lyons (Fr., Fulton, N.Y.) and Ben Sweet (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) took fifth place with a time of 10:45.11. The women' distance medley relay, which consisted of Barb Scheibel (So., Fabius, N.Y.), Amy Hannahan (Fr., Camillus, N.Y.), Katie Laris (Fr., Clay, N.Y.) and Sarah Popovitch (So., Clermont, N.Y.), finished seventh with a mark of 13:06.31.
Ben Sweet (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) was narrowly edged out of scoring in the 800 meters when he crossed the finish line in 1:58.74 to take ninth place. Damian Archie (Jr., Binghamton, N.Y.) also missed out in scoring in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:44.31, which was good for 10th. Christina Sakowski (Jr., Cicero, N.Y.) also placed 10th in the 3,000 meters after posting a time of 10:54.96.
