News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Oswego State women's basketball falls to Geneseo in 64-44 loss

OS Basketball    The Oswego State women's basketball team (12-3, 6-2 SUNYAC) looked to build on last night's win as it faced the Geneseo Blue Knights (11-4, 7-2 SUNYAC) Saturday night in a matchup of two top-ranked SUNYAC teams.

Both teams battled back and forth for much of the first half, as Oswego State was able to erase an early deficit to tie the contest at 17-17 with 6:22 remaining on the clock. Paula Egelston (Jr., Fultonville, N.Y.) found Meagan Stover (Sr., Lake George, N.Y.) ahead of the pack for a fast-break layup. Those were the last two points the Lakers scored in the half, as Geneseo's defense held Coach Bruno's squad to 22.6 percent shooting from the floor. The home team broke the game open as it closed the stanza on an 18-0 run including five points in the final 19 seconds by Melissa Graham to give the Blue Knights a 35-17 halftime advantage.
The visitors tried to cut into the lead as Egelston sank a jumper at the 12:58 mark of the second frame and then found a cutting Kari Kipper (Sr., Loudonville, N.Y.) for another quick bucket 35 seconds later. Geneseo continued to apply pressure, scoring ten unanswered points to stretch the lead to 27, as it cruised to a 64-44 victory.
The Blue Knights were efficient from the charity stripe, which helped to pad their lead, shooting a staggering 95 percent on 19 of 20 attempts. By comparison, Oswego State made its only two shots from the line.
Kipper was the only Laker in double figures with 11 points, while Graham paced the Blue Knights with a double-double, scoring 17 while collecting 13 boards. Katie Peterson chipped in 13.
The Lakers are back on the road Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. as they take on undefeated New Paltz (14-0, 6-0 SUNYAC).
