Six different skaters scored for the Oswego State women's ice hockey team (5-4-1, 5-2-0 ECAC West) in a 6-1 win over Chatham (1-6-0, 0-5-0 ECAC West) Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Cougars scored six minutes into the game on a goal by Morgan Becer with assists coming from Gina Abrego and Abby Maier. Four and a half minutes later, the Lakers tied the game when Megan Hagg (Jr., Pickering, Ontario) scored on a puck that found the upper part of the net going over the goalie. Melissa Seamont (Jr., North Bay, Ontario) earned an assist on the play. With three minutes remaining in the period, Oswego State added to its lead on a Mady Paul (Jr., Incline Village, Nevada) goal with an assist from Olivia Boersen (Jr., Stratford, Ontario).
Seamont extended the Laker lead over a minute into the second period after fighting through the crowd in front of the goal. The marker came on a delayed Chatham penalty, as Bridget Smith (So., Hamburg, N.Y.) was pulled for the extra skater. Boersen later scored the fourth goal of the game six minutes into the period. Emma Smetaniuk (Jr., Frankford, Ontario) and Seamont earned assists on the last goal of the period, giving Oswego State a 4-1 lead at the second intermission.
Jocelyn St. Clair (Jr., Cambridge, Ont.) added another goal with 7:24 remaining in the third period with Boersen notching her second assist of the contest. Chelsea Hunt (Jr., Brockport, N.Y.) scored the last goal with three minutes to play when the puck hit the right post and crossbar before going into the net.
Oswego State went 0-for-3 in power play opportunities, while Chatham went 0-for-3.
Smith made 10 saves in the win with Megan Buchanan posting 24 stops in the loss.
The Lakers take on Chatham again Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. in the Campus Center Ice Arena.
News from the Assembly Minority Leader
Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay
After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.
