Oswego State`s Archie races to victory at St. John Fisher Invitational

OS Track and Field     Damian Archie (Jr., Binghamton, N.Y.) triumphed in the 5,000-meter run, as one of several Lakers on the men's and women's outdoor track and field teams to post State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) qualifying results at the St. John Fisher Invitational. Saturday, April 27.

     Archie took first place in his event, while three other individuals scored fifth-place finishes on the men's side. Archie finished in a SUNYAC-qualifying time of 15:18.71, beating all opposition by over 11 seconds.

     Matt Wagenhauser (So., Greenlawn, N.Y.) paced Oswego State in the 200-meter dash with a SUNYAC-qualifying time of 22.38, finishing fifth and just 0.08 of a second of the ECAC-benchmark. Freshman Brandon Comden (Holley, N.Y.) took 14th in 22.95, which also hit the SUNYAC standard.

     In the 800-meter run, Andrew Baldwin (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) crossed the line in 1:57.14 for fifth place, followed closely by Ben Sweet (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) who took ninth place at 1:58.52, with both runners under the SUNYAC-qualifying time.

     Chris Bridgewater (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) turned in an impressive individual performance in the long jump, taking fifth place with a SUNYAC-qualifying length of 6.14 meters.

     On the women's side, sophomore Brittany DalCais (Hewitt, N.J.) earned second place by clearing an ECAC-qualifying 3.40 meters in the pole vault, while also taking hitting a SUNYAC-qualifying time (27.37) in the 200 meters. Teammates Kristen Harrigan (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Kathy Rodriguez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed closely in the 200-meter dash, both registering SUNYAC-qualifying times.

     Harrigan also hit the SUNYAC benchmark in the long jump with a leap of 4.90 meters, good for 11th place. Junior Katie Bott (Camillus, N.Y.) recorded a high finish in the 400-meter run for the Lakers, taking third place with an ECAC-qualifying time of 59.11 seconds.

     In the 1,500-meter run, Sarah Popovitch (So., Clermont, N.Y.) and Katie Laris (Fr., Clay, N.Y.) and finished with SUNYAC-qualifying times of 5:04.63 and 5:07.68, respectively. Junior Christina Sakowski (Cicero, N.Y.) placed eighth in the 5,000 meter-run with a SUNYAC-qualifying time of 19:12.48. In the field, junior Mallory Eckert (Edmeston, N.Y.) took fourth place in the javelin throw with a SUNYAC-qualifying 32.31-meter toss.

     The Lakers hit the road again next weekend, as they will travel to the SUNYAC Championships in Cortland.
