Second Half Runs & Defense Sends Women's Lacrosse Past SLU

Second Half Runs & Defense Sends Women's Lacrosse Past SLU

The Oswego State women's lacrosse team battled past St. Lawrence University at home on Wednesday afternoon, a game that was rescheduled from two previous dates earlier in the campaign.

Oswego made its move in the second half, using runs of four and three goals paired with a stifling defense to garner the victory.

THE BASICS

  • Result: Oswego 19, St. Lawrence 13
  • Location: Laker Turf Field – Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records: Oswego 3-0  |  St. Lawrence 0-2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers erased a two-goal halftime deficit by outscoring the Saints 3-2 in the first three minutes of the second, followed by runs of four and three. On defense, Oswego held St. Lawrence to just five goals in the second, down from eight in the first 30 minutes.
  • Oswego's four-goal spurt lasted 5:34 and included Molly Beck's go-ahead tally at 22:25.
  • The junior ripped side-winding shot from her left side over the left shoulder of the St. Lawrence goalie to give Oswego its first lead, 11-10, since the 8:29 mark of the first half.
  • Oswego ended its run ahead 13-10 on the Saints, and after surrendering a tally to its opponent, answered with three-straight goals over 7:07 to put the game out of reach.
  • Seniors Brigid Regin and Teresa Shattuck paced the Lakers with seven points apiece, both coming in completely different ways. Region rang up her seven points on six goals and an assist while Shattuck inversed those numbers with six helpers and a score.
  • Beck was close behind with four points on three goals and an assist while sophomore Kamryn Sherman matched Beck's point total, all coming on tallies.
  • Junior Kassidy Myers was next in the point column with three, having an assist to go along with a pair of scores.
  • Rounding out the Laker point getters was Montana Garrett (2) and Toni Laneve (1), combining for three points, each from goals.
  • Shattuck led the way on the draw with 8 controls, while Beck (3), Regin (3) and Garrett (1) collected the rest of Oswego's 15.
  • The defense was spurred by senior Danielle Walker's seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Zeina Akl helped her defensive teammate with two in each category.
  • In goal, Elianna Sanchez earned her third victory of the year with eight saves between the pipes.

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego will have the rest of the week off before returning to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to Utica College to face the Pioneers in a non-conference matchup.
