In his final collegiate race, Ben Griffin earned All-America status with his time in the finals of the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute on Saturday afternoon. It was the senior's third time as a national qualifier but his first appearance at the outdoor championships.
Griffin clocked a 1:51.92 in Saturday's final, good for a fifth-place finish in the nine-runner race. The top eight in the event are deemed All-Americans, as Griffin collected his first such citation. The Sterling, N.Y. native is a two-time 800-meter outdoor conference champion and a three time All-SUNYAC First Team honoree.
He is the Lakers first track and field All-American since Matt Wagenhauser finished in the same place of the same event at the 2014 championships.
