The sixth-seeded Oswego State volleyball team was unable to upend No. 3 New Paltz on the road, falling 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-20) in the first round of the SUNYAC Championship on Tuesday evening. With the loss, Oswego closes the season with a 14-16 record while New Paltz improves to 17-13 and advances to the conference tournament's semifinal round.
Seniors Meaghan Roefs and Megan Russell along with sophomore Ariel Murawski each had two blocks. Fellow seniors Lindsey Champitto (14) and Lauren Edwards shared the assisting duty, combining for 24. Classmate Emma Moriarty paced the passing effort with a team-high 12 digs.
Junior Rina Qelaj filled the stat sheet with nine digs, two assists and a pair of service aces.
Hitting was led by Murawski's eight kills while Isabella Winklestine spiked seven attempts for points at a team-best .400 percentage. Murawski's sophomore classmate Alison Sullivan chipped in four kills.
It was the third-consecutive year the Lakers appeared in the postseason, and the fourth time in five years under head coach J.J. O'Connell.
