Matt Wagenhauser (So., Greenlawn, N.Y.) started the 2013 outdoor track and field season off with a bang for Oswego State by winning the 400-meter dash with an ECAC-qualifying, school record time of 49.48 seconds at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday, March 30.
Wagenhauser also ran the first leg of the 4x100 relay, which captured top honors with a time of 3:29.83. Other members of the relay consisted of Ryan Brennan (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.), Nick Reinsdorf (So., Niverville, N.Y.) and Andrew Baldwin (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.).
Marissa Pariseau (So., Somerset, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter dash (1:01.54) and eighth in the 200 (27.77), while Katie Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) finished second in the 800 meters (2:23.08) and tenth in the 1,500 meters (5:07.79). All four results were SUNYAC-qualifying marks. Damian Archie (Jr., Binghamton, N.Y.) also took second place in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:57.96.
Pariseau teamed up with Kristen Harrigan (So., Buffalo, N.Y.), Brittany DalCais (So., Hewitt, N.J.) and Deborah Ajayi (Fr., Country Club Hills, Ill.) to take fifth in the 4x100 relay after crossing the finish line in 1:00.38, which was just 0.38 hundredths short of qualifying for the ECAC Championships. Ajayi also took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.90. DalCais finished fourth in pole vault based on the number of attempts after clearing a height of 10 feet, 8 inches (3.25m).
Christina Sakowski (Jr., Cicero, N.Y.), Meghan Murphy (So., Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Katie Laris (Fr., Clay, N.Y.) each registered post-season qualifying times in the 5,000 meters, as Sakowski clocked a time of 19:24.15, Murphy registered a time of 19:34.95 and Laris finished with a time of 19:52.48.
A pair of Lakers had fifth-place showings in the javelin as Frank Risole (Gr., Wappingers Fall, N.Y.) recorded a throw of 150 feet, 5 inches (45.86m) and Mallory Eckert (Jr., Edmeston, N.Y.) notched a throw of 95 feet, 6 inches (29.10m). Both marks were SUNYAC qualifiers.
Joshuwa Maiolo (So., Rome, N.Y.) placed fourth in the triple jump with a SUNYAC-qualifying leap of 40 feet, 1 1/4 inches (12.22m) and third in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 11 1/2 inches (6.08m). Maiolo along with Brandon Comden (So., Holley, N.Y.), Devonte Rolle (So., Batavia, N.Y.) and Jake Zaft (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) crossed the finish line third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 45.19.
Other Oswego State competitors to turn in SUNYAC-qualifying marks included Sarah Popovitch (So., Clermont, N.Y.) in the 1,500 meters (5:11.71) and Baldwin in the 200-meter dash (23.51.). Ben Sweet (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) also took third in the 800 (2:01.67).
The Lakers will compete at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational next Saturday, April 6.
