Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 1 Cortland in SUNYAC Semis

The fourth-seeded Oswego State women's lacrosse team had its season come to a close with a 19-10 loss to No. 1 seed Cortland on Friday afternoon at the Red Dragon's Stadium Complex. Oswego closes one of its most successful seasons in program history with a 12-4 overall mark, tying the Laker record for wins in a single season.

Unbeaten Cortland – the nation's unanimous top-ranked team – advances to the SUNYAC Championship title game and will face the winner of No. 2 Brockport and No. 3 Geneseo on Saturday.

In the first half, Cortland notched the game's first goal but Oswego answered with two tallies of its own. The first came from Lindsey Eggers on a free-position at 26:35 before Emily Lange scored off an Erannan Shattuck assist at 25:06. Oswego and Cortland then traded goals, with Kendall Appelbaum giving the Lakers back the lead at 3-2 off a free-position of her own. At that point, Cortland went on a 10-2 run to end the half, holding a 12-5 advantage at the break.

One of those two goals down the stretch of the first half for Oswego came from Lange. Not only was it the senior's second of the contest, but it was also her 100th career tally. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y. native becomes the 11th member of the 100-goal club at Oswego, joining her senior classmates Esther Gabrieland E. Shattuck.

Oswego continued to fight into the second half, outscoring the Red Dragons 5-3 over the first 19:59. That run brought the Lakers to within striking distance at 15-10 but Cortland would tally the contest's last four goals for the 19-10 victory.

Lange and Gemma O'Kane paced Oswego with three goals apiece while Teresa Shattuck had the team's most points with four assists. E. Shattuck also had a three-point day, scoring once to go along with two helpers. Eggers, Appelbaum and Kelsey Henderson rounded out the scorers with a goal apiece.

Between the pipes, Angela Ponto was solid all day, stopping a career-high 19 shots. It was the sophomore's most stops by a five-save margin, as her previous career high was 14 on two separate occasions.
