Mayor William J. Barlow, Jr. announced today the signing of a Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement with the Victor Orlando Woolson (V.O.W.) Foundation to provide funding assistance for the City-sponsored Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program.

The Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement, signed by V.O.W.’s founder and president, Teresa Woolson, allows funds donated to the foundation to be used in support of the D.A.R.E. Program, which is administered by the Oswego Police Department and teaches students in the Oswego Middle School and elementary schools about making healthy choices and staying away from illegal drugs.

“I am very pleased to be partnering with Teresa Woolson and the V.O.W. Foundation,” proclaimed Mayor Barlow. “Drug abuse is more preventable the earlier you can educate young students, and this partnership with V.O.W. will ensure that the D.A.R.E. carries on,” Barlow added.

The D.A.R.E. program had been dormant for more than 10 years before Barlow brought it back by advocating for its funding by the Common Council in time for the 2017-2018 school year. The Oswego Police Department provides a dedicated D.A.R.E. officer to educate students within the Oswego City School District.

“The sponsorship of the D.A.R.E. program fits in perfectly with the mission of the V.O.W. Foundation,” said Teresa Woolson. “If the foundation’s involvement helps prevent children from making bad choices about illegal drugs it will be a success,” Woolson declared.

The V.O.W. Foundation is a not-for-profit, 501c3 tax-exempt organization. To learn more about the foundation’s work and services or to contribute please visit its website at www.vow-foundation.org
