After a life well lived, Dr Allen Rosenberg, podiatrist, passed away peacefully August 12th 2022 in Oswego New York at 94.
Dr Rosenberg was born April 3rd 1928 in Brooklyn, New York.
Dr Rosenberg graduated from Thomas Jefferson high School in Brooklyn in 1946. While in high school he excelled on the swim team. He was then admitted to St John's University College of Pharmacy, but then joined the army national guard in 1947 where he served with 101st Armored Calvary Regiment and was awarded the Marksman medal. He was a lifetime member and adjutant of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Onondaga Post 131 for over 25 years. He remained with the national guard until honorably discharged in 1951. In 2016 Dr Rosenberg was inducted in the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.
He graduated from the New York City Community College in 1948 with a major in chemistry and participated in the track and field team as a javelin thrower. He then went on to the Long Island University, College of Podiatry (New York College of Podiatric Medicine) where he graduated in 1954.
Dr Rosenberg practiced as a podiatrist in Poughkeepsie, New York for the next 38 years. He was a member of the Temple Beth-El synagogue. During his career Dr Rosenberg worked at four different hospitals at one time, including state hospitals, Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, and Wassaic Developmental Center. In 1979 Dr Rosenberg became one of the original members of the American Podiatric Circulatory Society. In 1982 he became a fellow of the American Association of Hospital Podiatrists.
After retiring in 1992 Dr Rosenberg moved to Oswego, New York where he married Margot Baker. Margot and Allen spent a lot of time traveling in Europe and Hawaii. However, Oswego, New York was their home base. They were both very involved in their neighborhood and community. They were members of Temple Adath Israel. They contributed to Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum and other charities in Oswego, New York. Dr Rosenberg was also the ultimate Giants fan. He stuck with them through good times and bad. On his 93rd birthday he received a personal call from the general manager of the Giants.
In 2012 Dr Rosenberg moved into Bishop's Commons at St Luke's where he lived for over 10 years. He was very active in the resident council, and started a book club. He became the longest standing resident and ambassador at Bishop's Commons.
Dr Rosenberg loved his family. He was predeceased by his parents David and Rachel Rosenberg, his twin sister Gloria Rosenberg, and his wife Margot Rosenberg. He is survived by his children Seth (Sue) Rosenberg, Susan Morgan, Ellen (Robert) Rosen. His seven grandchildren Daniel (Elyse) Rosenberg, Sara (Noel) Rosenberg Flores, Hanna (Robert) Rosenberg, David Morgan, Ilene Morgan, Drew Rosen, and Jeremy Rosen. His great grandson Barak Rosenberg Flores. And his niece Jinny Smith.
Burial was performed at a private gathering at the Riverside Cemetery in Oswego, New York in the Temple Adath Israel section. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum in Oswego, New York in memory of Dr Allen.
