Emily J. Coe, 90, of Scriba, passed away Suddenly at home Friday November 2, 2018.
She was a life resident of Scriba, growing up in the store at Scriba Corners, and on Klocks Corners Road for most of her married life.
In addition to her parents, Nelson and Veda (Williams) Hutchinson, she is predeceased by her sisters, Catherine Anne Hutchinson, Linda Rebbein, little sister and brother Rita and Andrew David. She is predeceased by her husband of sixty-three years, Leon H. Coe.
In her early years, Emily works at Conn Knitting Mills and clerked at her father’s Scriba Corners grocery store until her children were born.
Emily is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Crawley-Orr (Fred Orr), Douglas Coe (Linda Davis) and Bradley (Linda) Coe. She has three grandchildren, Chawn (Vicki) Crawley, Patricia (Aaron) Bowman and Rebecca Butler, step-grandchildren, Amyjo Orr and Frederick C. Orr, as well as four great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren in addition to nieces and nephews.
Emily and Leon enjoyed their retirement years, bowling on a couple’s league and square dancing with the “Shirts and Skirts”. They also loved camping with their friends during the summer. Emily was well known for her craft work, making countless quilts. Many newborn at her church was the recipients of handmade baby blankets and sweaters.
Emily was courageous in her survival after a bout with breast cancer and it served as the impetus to start a cancer survivors group known as the Encouragers. She faithfully ministered to other survivors, with countless phone contacts and occasional lunch dates.
She was a member of the Oswego Alliance Church.
Calling hours will be held 4-7 PM Tuesday, November 6th at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
Funeral Services will be held 10AM Wednesday at the Oswego Alliance Church, Thompson Rd. Oswego. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
