The New Horizons Chorus will be joined by the Sounds of Brass in a free public concert on Friday, September 8, at 7:00 P.M., at the Minetto United Methodist Church.

The chorus will be singing a selection of songs from Broadway by such luminaries as Cole Porter, Richard Rogers, Oscar Hammerstein, and Andrew Lloyd Weber, drawn from Phantom of the Opera, Gypsy, Wildcats, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, to name a few.

Taking their cue from the chorus, the Sounds of Brass will also be playing numbers from Broadway as well as other popular tunes. The group has been playing together for eleven years and presently consists of two trumpeters, one trombonist, one percussionist, one French horn player, and two tuba players. They perform free of charge in Oswego and neighboring counties. The group is led by Frank Bickel, professor emeritus of SUNY Oswego.

The Oswego County New Horizons Chorus began in 2008. The group draws members from across Oswego County as well as some from Cayuga and Onondaga Counties. The chorus currently has 45 singers that are seniors 50 years of age or older and come from all walks of life and levels of musical background. They perform together for the pure enjoyment of music, to socialize with others who love music, and to entertain audiences. The group performs for festivals, park programs, senior residential facilities, and church groups; offering a variety of musical selections that include everything from classics to pops, and including golden oldies. The chorus is directed by Mary Lou Bjorkman who is also known as the director of Concinnity.

The church is fully accessible and is located at the corner of State Route 48 and County Route 8, one block south of the Stewarts Shop, midway between Oswego and Fulton, in the village of Minetto. Its physical address for GPS purposes is 2433 County Route 8, Oswego, NY 13126. The mailing address is PO Box 217, Minetto, NY 13115.

A collection shed is available in the parking lot at the back of the church for usable clothing items that can be recycled. Acceptable items include: all clothing, shoes, sneakers, purses, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, drapes, and stuffed toys.

The church is offering for sale its Minetto Village Christmas Ornament Series to raise funds for several building maintenance projects. The available ornaments are: 2013 Minetto United Methodist Church, 2014 Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 2015 the Minetto Bridge over the Oswego River, 2016 Minetto Town Hall, and 2017 Riverside Memorial Park.
