Free movie night on August 21st in Franklin Square Park put on by Lee Walker Jr and Family had great success with over 300 people in attendance.
"I'm very pleased with the turnout," stated Walker Jr. Mr. Walker Jr put the event on as a way to give back to the local community. With the help of Funflicks, the free movie shown was The Boss Baby. Walker hired FunFlicks for the presentation of the movie.
While people were coming to the park, G&G Animals put some animals on display such as various snakes, bearded dragons, and even let the tortoises walk around the park. Before the movie began, Dan with G&G Animals put on an animal show which included tortoises, lizards, large snakes and even an alligator, yes an alligator! After the show, Dan answered questions if anyone had them.
Along with G&G Animals, The Oswego County Health Department had a table set up handing out bug wipes and had informational flyers on mosquitos and even had even shown off some bats (in jars and were no longer alive). Also having a table set up was The Oswego City/County Youth Bureau doing tie making/decorating and could wear them while they watched the movie.
For FunFlicks, this was their first time showing in Franklin Square Park. Founding President of FunFlicks Indoor and Outdoor Movies in Central, Northern and Western NY Timothy A. Bennett stated: "I was very excited to do our first movie in Franklin Square Park." He believed that this was great for those who live on the west side of Oswego who didn't have the means to travel to any of the East Park and be able to experience the outdoor movie.
Not only did FunFlicks provide a great outdoor movie experience for everyone but they also had concessions which sold cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, and drinks. Mr. Walker Jr paid for snow cones for children who were 12 and under. "I wanted everyone to have a great time. I believe our youth are the future of Oswego and its great to have the kids come up and grab the snow cone cups and see their smiles and thank me," said Walker Jr.
"This is something I hope to continue to do," stated Walker Jr. This was not the first time Mr. Walker has done things for children. For many years, Walker would hand out snow cones at Leighton Elementary for grades K thru 6 on the last day of school while the children had recess.
For Bennett, his FunFlicks motto is "As the business grows, so should the community that the business serves." Bennett also stated, "Between the movie, the petting zoo/animal show and paying for so many children's snow cones, Mr. Walker showed he really cares about his community."
We here at iheartoswego.com would like to thank Mr. Walker Jr and family for their generosity and putting on such a great event.
