CNY Arts Center has received three grants that will support Scholarships for Arty Camp 2016 which begins Monday, July 11 and runs through August 19. With grants from the John Ben Snow Foundation, The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation, and a New York State Decentralization grant, the Arts Center is poised to offer scholarships to children in the community.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to bring exciting art classes to children,” said Alice Lamb, Camp Director. “We are very grateful to have such wonderful support that sends a clear message arts for children are critically important and worth supporting by funders. There is no excuse for children not to enjoy this wonderful experience.”

The popular camp offers six weeks of art classes held in the downtown location at 47 S. First St. in Fulton. Each week offers a different theme including new topics such as Video production, Arty2D2 Star Wars theme art, art inspired by nature and animals, woodworking, culinary, edible art and more. Aerospace artist and Fulton native Don Gillespie returns for another week of painting and study in his special painting techniques. Students will have a full week of instruction with the Master artist.

At the request of working parents this year, ARTY Camp also offers early drop off and late pickup for an extra fee. Free lunch and a free art project will be offered each day from noon to 2pm open to any child in the county.

At a second location at the Arts Center at 11 River Glen Dr. on the Cayuga College Fulton Campus theatre camp will run in two 3 week sessions and produce a complete play in each session. Students will design costumes and build sets, learn lines and prepare each play for a showcase free to the public at the close of each session. I Wish, the Cinderella story from the sassy Fairy Godmother’s perspective, will be presented in the first session, July 11-29. Jungle Book is the theme of the 2nd session with all the popular characters of the well-known book brought to life Aug 1- 19.

This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts.

Parents are encouraged to ask about scholarship opportunities and take advantage of the financial support from the grants. It’s not too late! More information and registration can be found online at CNYArtsCenter.com or call 315-598-ART (2787).
