Heritage Tree Program Takes Root With Support From Oswego Elks Lodge

The St. Luke-John Foster Burden Fund Memorial/Heritage Tree Program has taken root, thanks to support from the Oswego Elks Lodge.

With their purchase of a Colorado blue spruce through the Memorial/Heritage Tree Program, the Oswego Elks Lodge has helped begin the process of re-planting trees to restore the natural beauty on the St. Luke healthcare campus, following a wind storm last year that tore through the area. A number of mature trees that covered the surrounding hillside in the residential neighborhood were either blown over or damaged to the point of requiring their removal.

The tree purchase and planting was made in honor of all Elks Lodge members, past and present.

“We are grateful for the generosity extended by The Elks Lodge to our healthcare affiliates through our Memorial/Heritage Tree Program,” said Greg Osetek, Director of Community Relations. “Our healthcare campus is one of the first things people notice when they are driving into Oswego and we are hoping to return some the natural beauty to the surrounding area at St. Luke, Bishop’s Commons and at St. Francis Commons following damage to a number of mature trees during a wind storm that hit the area last summer that required their removal.”

Osetek added, “This Blue Spruce will serve as a focal point that will be appreciated by our residents, especially during the holiday season when it is decorated. We are hoping others in our community, through the support of our Memorial/Heritage Tree and Bench Program, will help our not-for-profit, community-based healthcare affiliates continue efforts to enhance the natural environment enjoyed by residents, families, and our neighbors in the community who frequently use the walkways found throughout our healthcare campus.”
