For the past nine months, we have seen and heard from an increasing number of residents who have been attending the Oswego County Legislature meetings.
People have come to speak on specific resolutions during the formal meeting and during the Public Comments session which follows the regular meeting. Many of those speaking have continually requested that the legislators hold informational meetings about the potential impact of the BBB facing Oswego County. Others are seriously concerned about the increasing illegal actions of ICE and Border Patrol around our communities. It is most alarming that our Sheriff, Don Hilton, continues to cooperate with both these agencies. Most recently OC deputies crossed county lines to participate in the Cato, NY raid. This at local tax payer expense.
Of the 25 representatives, the majority have failed to respond to any of the public’s requests. Instead, they remain silent, leave during the public comments section, or in one case, stand and announce that he “is not interested in hearing anything about federal or state issues from the public, he only wants to hear about Oswego County issues.” This certainly is alarming on any front. One wonders just how naïve one could be. All three are related to one another. The good news, however, is this election there are double digit people running to replace some of the sitting representatives who have remained complacent on every devastating illegal action of the Trump regime .
Your attendance and/or your voice matters and there is no more important time for our county representatives to hear your ideas and concerns. The next Oswego County Legislature meeting is at 2 pm on October 9th at 46 E. Bridge Street, Oswego, NY. Come and show your support!
